Film and Photo Committee Members

Nikki Shaw - President
Hey, I’m Nikki Shaw, a third year architect, and President of Photosoc.
I got involved in photography a few years ago when I joined my local camera club, but it’s only since I started uni and joined the photo society, that I have really become serious about photography. I currently use a Nikon D7000 and I have just dug out my dad’s Olympus OM-2N SLR so I am beginning to experiment with film.  I like to take photos of everything and anything! But my main interests are in Landscapes, Seascapes and Travel photography.

Jack Foster - Vice President
I'm Jack, the Vice-President for this year, currently in my second year of a Ba (Hons) Architecture course. I help with all aspects of the society, and will always be around if you have any questions. I shoot with a Canon 1000D, and I really enjoy low-light photography, street photography and portraiture. I love playing records, working out in the gym and going out on town!

Vicki Parker - Secretary
Course studying: Journalism and Media Studies, 2nd year.
What else I do for Uni: Pictures Editor for Pugwash News, Head of News for Pure FM, member of the Mountaineering and Climbing Society, doing a CVQ (community volunteering qualification with the Union). Tend to stick my noes into all Union Democracy forums and Student council sessions.
My Photography: I started out doing a lot of landscape but I started to fall in love with portraiture. I love capturing raw emotion, taking pictures when people don't realise to catch people in their natural state and not how they want to be seen by a camera by posing. My inspiration is seeing the impact that a single picture can have, like the portrait of (as cheesy as it sounds) Anne Frank, that single image almost serves to gie the 6million Jews that died in the Hollocaust closure anda  face. The image of the German soldier jumping over the barbed wire fence (before the Wall went up) into West Berlin, even though he was supposed to be patrolling the wall, is my favourite image, because for me that single picture sums up the desperation of a war that lasted so long and killed so many.
I use an Olympus...too ashamed to go into specifics (I need a new camera). I like Nikon though.

Helen Wood - Treasurer
Second year Graphic Design student, bought my first compact 6 or 7 years ago, used my mum's SLR for my art and photography GCSE and fell in love, I upgraded my compact to a Panasonic which I still have a love to bit despite it being 3years old. Last year I joined the society and got my first DSLR which I have since thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with and learning some cool tricks. I do not really have a favourite photographer though I did see a very good exhibition of Duffy's work over the summer. Again i don't really have a set thing I like to photography, I like to experiment and take when I feel like it.

Elisabeth Spielbichler - Webmaster
Third year Computer Animation Student.
I'm also in the University Choir, and I am an Environment artist for the first full feature Animation movie Portsmouth Uni is going to release, called Stina and the Wolf.
Always had a passion for photography, but my true inspiration that made me buy a SLR was my school teacher who taught me photography. Personally I like taking pitures of landscapes, seascapes, people and cultures (especially when I am travelling) and architecture. I am getting a new interest for Macro too.
I own a Canon SLR, and a Canon EOS 50D.
