Newsletter - 17th November 2008

 ISSUE 5

Dear all,

Just a quick reminder that the entries for the blue photo competition are due at midnight tonight (Tuesday). If you missed the first email then here's the details:

 COMPETITION TIME (sent 11/11/2008)

Between now and the next meeting, we've got something to keep you on your toes. It's our monthly competition, starting this month.

This month's theme is blue - interpret it how you will - it's your chance to get creative, the possibilities are endless.

Email your entries to dan@filmandphoto.org by midnight Monday 17th, together with your name etc, and all pictures will be featured at an anonymous showing on Tuesday 18th's meeting and there will be a prize for the winner.

Some important bits and pieces to be covered, so read on ...

Yours, the committee.

 !!! STOP PRESS - CHRISTMAS MEAL/SOCIAL !!!

We'll be having our annual Christmas meal on the evening of either Tuesday the 2nd or Wednesday the 3rd of December.

We have thrown in the Wednesday into the pot, as we are aware that some people are unable to make the Tuesday evening meetings anyway due to other commitments (and apparently a lot of people have very little in the way of lectures/seminars on Weds ...).

We would very much like as many people to be able to come to a social even though they may have not been able to attend some/all of the meetings during the year.

It is up to you, the members - if there is a majority swing to Tuesday, it will be held on Tuesday, if Wednesday is more convenient for most people, then we will hold it on Wednesday.

Please can ALL who wish to attend email newsletter@filmandphoto.org with either Wednesday or Tuesday in the subject line to register your interest and to help decide which day.

Also, if you have any info on good eateries in Portsmouth and surrounding area which might be worth going to, then we're open to suggestions. Again newsletter@filmandphoto.org for tips.

 HEMIS (STUDENT) NUMBERS

We have had problems with email delivery to some people's email addresses, so please could everybody please hit reply with details of their HEMIS (student) number, so we can email your @port.ac.uk email address too.

We have found that these seem to work with no problems (ironically, for the university's IT systems).

Some email providers, in particular, Yahoo, do not deliver our messages in a timely manner and place then in spam by default. This behaviour seems to vary from place to place.

If you find it more convenient to get updates by text, then please give your mobile number - it is free to receive them.

 PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEO CAMERAMAN REQUIRED

Pure Vibez (a show on student radio station, Pure FM) is looking for a cameraman and photographer for their weekly show (Mondays 8-10pm) and also for events in and around Portsmouth. If you're interested, then reply to this email and we'll pass on your details.

We'll be winding down for Christmas, so there will be no meeting on this date. Come along to the social on the 2nd/3rd!

For 2009 (Semester 2)?

We have other visits and trips planned - we will be heading up to London at some point, and also will be organising a visit abroad and also a long weekend sometime over the May day bank holiday.

Watch this space for more info ...

Also, if you haven't become a paid up member yet, then it only costs £5. Ask any of the committee at the next meeting, and they will be able to help you sign up.

 UNION CARD

The students' union requires people participating in clubs or societies to sign up for the union card. It's free and will take only a few minutes to register (click the link below).

http://www.upsu.net/register

NB: It is entirely up to you whether you choose to sign up for NUS extra and fork out the tenner for it, but the union card will do the job fine for the purpose of participating in clubs or societies.

Please be aware that the last date for applying for the union card/NUS extra is fairly soon.

 AND FINALLY ...

This newsletter has been sent to you because you have signed up to the mailing list or are a member of the UPSU Film and Photo society. It is not spam - if you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, then please reply to this email, with "remove" somewhere in the subject line, and we will take you off the list for further mailings. In any case, please do not hit any sort of delete as spam/report as junk email button, as it could result in further communications to other members with the same email service (e.g. Hotmail) being blocked inadvertently.
